The first book in the tremendously popular series, The Lightning Thief is the tale of 12-year-old Percy Jackson (an allusion to Perseus from Greek mythology).  Jackson is a demigod, the son of Poseidon and a mortal mother, and he seeks sanctuary at Camp Half-Blood along with other kids like him.  If traditional Greek myths do not appeal to some readers, surely this story will.
